NVWR® 48 - Why do Clones Matter?

What do we mean when we talk about grape clones or selections? Are they chosen for their performance in the vineyard or does it have more to do with the overall character of the wine?

In this episode, Nancy Hawks Miller, our Director of Education, will tell you a little about how they’re identified and what kind of influence they have on the finished wine.

Kudos Nancy, this was a sufficiently detailed and enjoyably informational episode. As a graduate of horticulture, more years ago than I like to admit, I was impressed with the content but also felt that it was presented in a manner that was accessible to all. The amount of patience required by the wine maker in clonal selection as well as other aspects of wine making never ceases to amaze me.
